A Phenomenological Study on Settlement of South Korean Society

Abstract

|
This study attempted phenomenological approach to understand the settlement process of North Korean defectors in the era of 30,000 people. In the meantime, the national support and management for the settlement of North Korean defectors have been carried out, and many previous studies have been conducted. Nevertheless, the life of North Korean defectors still has structural social problems. Therefore, this study started as an effort to make the Korean people join together, not as 'refugees' anymore.,Therefore, for the analysis, based on the interview with 8 North Korean defectors, the experience in their adaptation and settlement process was examined using the phenomenological study. In other words, the settlement process of South Korean life after the defection and various experiences at the current workplace were described and the psychological social phenomena that appear in a series of experiences were structured., Especially, this study tried to explore the essence by systematizing Giorgi's phenomenological experience. In addition, the analysis results show that the most important thing in North Korean defectors' adaptation to South Korea is the necessity of self-determination efforts by North Korean defectors and the possibility of settling down as a member of South Korean society more easily when they are prepared and endeavored at the time of North Korean defection rather than relying on the government or society by themselves.
